Logo Bargagli Going up the Bisagno Valley along its left side, scattered along the steep slope of Croce di Bragalla, just before the tunnel that takes you to the Fontanabuona Valley you will come across Baragli.

Its place-name refers to the mountain that the town is situated on. The center of the town is represented by the Parish Church of St. Maria Assunta. In fact this church has been mentioned in documents that date back to the 10th century and the church was completely transformed in 1600.

In the past due to its position it had become a natural crossroad that led to Piacenza along with the Fontanbuona crossroad. Its importance could date back to the Roman epoch since the area contained some urbanistic artifacts of that epoch such as bridges.

Baragli is also made up of various communities such as: Terrusso, Maxena, Traso, Viganego, and Cisiano.

However, Baragli didn’t only specialize in the production of fruit and vegetables in fact, in the past the local economy depended on the working of silk and velvet.

The agricultural tradition of the territory that is seen by its walls has been modified and now there is a new type of economy that is tied to tourism especially on the weekends. Its visitors are attracted by the Bisagno Valley landscape as well as its typical dishes, which use local products that offer tastes which are becoming rarer in the city.

Other interesting places to visit are the Church of St. Ambrosia at Traso that dates back to 12th century and the Church of Our Lady at Montallegro that has interesting paintings by the Genoese school of Viganego.

Of great fun is the excursion to St. Oberto (678 meters) where you can enjoy an awesome view of the Bisagno and Fontanabuona Valleys.
