Not far from the sea, at the slopes of Monte San Giacomo and among olive groves there is Cogorno.
The local government also includes the communities of San Salvatore, Breccanecca, San Colombano, Costa, and Monticelli.
Cogorno is within the Entella Valley and historically it is linked to the Fontanabuona Valley, the Ardesia Valley, of which the Comunità Montana is included, and the Graveglia Valley.
On the plain where “s’adima la fiumana bella” written by Dante in the Divine Comedy, (Purgatory XIX, v. 100-102) it then flows into the Tigullio Gulf between the cities of Chiavari and Lavagna.
It also passes the residential area of San Salvatore, which is where the town hall is located. It is a small town that has become a tourist and scholastic destination due to its Medieval Fieschi town.
Behind Cogorno are the beautiful hills that are warmed by the shinning sun and they reach the top of Monte San Giacomo.
The hills have been lined with typical Ligurian stone walls that have been patiently built and for centuries olive trees have been cultivated in this area.
The paths and roads allow you to visit religious buildings and it also allows you to admire its breathtaking view.
In the territory of the local government there are famous monuments such as the Parish Church of St. Lorenzo in Cogorno with its polyptych attributed to Mazone.
The construction of the Church of San Colomabano della Costa goes back to the monks of the Bobbio Convent; the parish church of Breccanecca dates back to the 13th century and at the top of Monte San Giacomo there is a chapel dedicated to this Saint. From here you can admire the awesome view that the Ligurian nature provides: a view of the Ligurian Apennines with a clear sky and blue sea background.
