 Logo Crocefieschi The place-name Crocefieschi comes from the fact that is was once an estate of the Fieschi family. It is a town of the Upper Scrivia Valley and it has become a resort and great place for excursions. Its urban structure is placed in a linear way along Via XX Settembre but in the past it followed a mountain ridge. The expansion of the road occurred in an irregular way in the surrounding territories, but its linear structure remained unchanged.

The surrounding environment contains chestnut tress and copse. If you reach Crocefieschi through Busalla you will notice that the town is dominated by the Reopasso cliff (957 meters) and its north peak is called “Carrega del Diavolo.” The Fall season is very beautiful in this area because you can admire the gradual changes of color in the woods and in the winter with its clouds make this area a fascinating landscape.

This area has many migratory and permanent animals such as: woodpeckers, jays, doves, quails, and robins but there are also hares and pheasants. Since it has a wonderful climate and it is not to high, it has become a favorite summer resort of the Genoese and this has helped there old agricultural economy.

Its history dates back to pre-historic times and it was also an important caravan route that tied the coast with the Po Valley. There was also the famous “Via del Sale” that took advantage of the Apennine ridges. In fact its place-name “croce” (cross) derives from this feature and later the name Fieschi was added because they were the lords of the area.

From here you can go on many excursions such as: Mount Reopasso where you can admire the scenery of the Polcevera and Scrivia Valleys as well as the sea, Castello della Pietra, Mount Antola, Costa Suia where you can visit the castle ruins of Savignone, and Mount Schigonzo (1016 meters) that has a breathtaking view of Genoa with Righi and Novi Ligure on one side and the plains on the other. You can also savor typical local products of the past such as: trofie made with chestnut flour, lamb with artichokes, focaccia bread with potatoes, sausages, cheeses, and there apple, almond and chestnut cakes.
