The magnificent tour of the Great Province of Genoa offers a unique and breathtaking panoramic. Between the Lerone and Cantarena creeks is Arenzano, a sea resort that dates back to Roman times. The old part of town is very interesting because it reveals the features of a Ligurian town along the sea. In its wholeness and through its fascinating century-old buildings lies the magic of Genoa, an ancient house of Giano that beholds numerous treasures of the past.
The 9th century constructions strengthened the city through its walls, doors, warehouses, wharfs, and squares. During the 12th century a real architectonic style arose that can be seen in the Romanesque churches of S. Giovanni di Prè (St. John of Prè) and S. Maria di Castello (St. Maria of Castello). Gothic churches decorated with alternating black slates and white marble that date back to the 13th century can been seen in the churches of S. Agostino (St. Augustus), S. Matteo (St. Matthew), S. Stefano (St. Steven) and in the Cattedrale di S. Lorenzo (Cathedral of St. Lawrence).
Other marvelous and attractive places to visit are Palazzo S. Giorgio that is almost cast on the sea and the restored Palazzo Ducale. The widening of the Duomo and the opening of new streets during the 16th century allowed patrician families to expand their living quarters. Via Garibaldi is an excellent example of this because it is composed entirely of buildings. The best example of 16th century religious architecture can be seen in the Basilica of S. Maria of Carignano. Even Via Balbi contains a rich sequence of buildings built during the 19th century such as the fascinating Palazzo Reale. The Casa di Colombo (House of Columbus) and the Caravella Gardens along with Piazza de Ferari and Piazza della Vittoria are the most sought-after tourist attractions as well as the noteworthy town of Boccadasse. The view that can be seen from above the city is tempting and it allows you to inhale its history and profound loveliness.
