Montoggio is located where the Scrivia Valley begins to widen.
Just like many other places, Montoggio is made up of different communities that are scattered along the two sides of the torrent in a basin cultivated with fruit trees. It is dominated by Mount Bano (1035 meters) and it slopes are covered with woods.
Its untouched landscape, cool summer climate, and its gastronomic traditions make it the perfect resort for a weekend getaway.
It is believed that the community of Pratolongo is the birthplace of Balilla who was a symbol during the revolt of the population against the Austrian troops.
Montoggio is also an ideal place for excursions and it offers some destinations such as: the lake in Val Noce and the remains of the castle where Girolamo Fieschi took refuge from the Genoese led by Agostino Spinola.
On your hike up to Mount Antola (1598 meters) you will come across the Banca pass as well as the communities of Piani, Crosi, Carsi, and then you will continue to the Costa della Gallina all the way to the mountain top.
While hiking up Mount Candelozzo (1036 meters) you will pass Campoveneroso and from its peak you can admire a beautiful panorama that includes the Bisagno, Fontanbuona, Scrivia Valleys as well as Mount Antola.
