Logo It is a large town located in the Scrivia Valley bend. Its history dates back to 1127 due to an agreement between the Consuls of Genoa and the lords that governed the town on behalf of the Bishop of Tortona.

It had all the features of a feudal town, there were castle walls and it was dominated by the castle of the Malaspina Vasalli of the Bishop of Tortona.

Due to various contrasts followed by wars with Genoa (that favored this area because of its strategical trading position), Ronco went under the Spinola lordship which maintained it for many centuries.

The greatest period of splendor for this town was in the 1600’s when the lordship of Napoleon Spinola went to the Emperor Ferdinando III in order to mint coins. With Napoleon Bonaparte it became part of the Ligurian Republic and in 1815 it joined the states of the Sardinian King.

It became part of the Italian Kingdom in 1861 two years after the royal decree of Vittorio Emmanuele II and it received the name Ronco Scrivia.

It has always been a road junction and later it became an important railway line. Almost half of the town’s property was destroyed during the last war due to 27 bombings.

In the last ten years its economy, which was mainly based on agriculture, went under a great industrial transformation and this made it an important railway junction. The surrounding communities can be appreciated for there tourist attractions.

Ronco has numerous restaurants, sport facilities, and a pool located in the Upper Scrivia Valley. Since there are many different ways that you can reach the town it has become a preferred spot of the Genoese.

You must not forget the patronal feasts, la different communities, and the magnificent Sagra della lumaca (Snail Feast) that is celebrated on the first weekend in June.
