Coming form the Riviera, the Lavagna torrent, and passing Carasco, you will enter the Fontanabuona Valley. On the right hand side you can admire terrace-cultivations, which characterize the various communities that make up San Colombano Certenoli.
The origin of the place-name dates back to 1863 after years of fighting among the nine communities of what name to give the town.
Therefore they decided to give it the name San Colombano after the name of another community as well as Certenoli which is the name of the biggest community.
Throughout the territory there are findings that date back to pre-Roman settlements. However, it was the arrival of the Benedictine Monks of San Colombano who died in Bobbio in 615 that left their mark in these towns because they taught the people the technique of terracing, how to cultivate, and other activities tied to the world of agriculture.
The territory of the local government, because of its width it is seventh in the province of Genoa and it is separated by the Tigullio Gulf by a thin mountain chain.
In the past this mountain chain didn’t get in the way of trading and today it is one of the aspirations not satisfied by the two territories: that of a tunnel would allow the activities of the Riviera to expand as well as its food products because the valley contains ancient traditions of wonderful tastes.
Even tourist could benefit because it would further unite the users of the Riviera as well as those of the mountain. From San Colombano Certenoli you can reach the magnificent Cichero Valley and the Ramaceto mountain that is 1345 meters high and it represents the connection with Aveto.
