logo The trades were bond to the fact that they were situated along the road of the “Feudi imperiali,” which historically conditioned the development of St. Olcese. Its urbanization is concentrated along the areas of the upper valley that are interested in transits.

The settlements in the valley were scarce during the Contemporary epoch because they were limited by the two small towns of Manesseno and Comago. It then underwent a consistent development thanks to the industrialization of the second postwar period.

Very interesting is the town of Trensasco, which is located along the secular Public Waterworks of Genoa. Which in turn is tied to the production of water mills which were of extreme importance in the past centuries.

Today the economic activity is tied to important productive settlements, however the most important economic source is tourism. In fact tourism is favored by the pleasantness of its places and by its agriculture, which is still practiced today. In fact it provides genuine products especially fruits and vegetables.

St. Olcese is very well-known for its salami and cold pork meats such as its famous “salami of St. Olcese.” The “historical” streets of the area have various interesting points such as its natural panorama and its climate, which is appreciated by it inhabitants.

The most interesting places to visit are:
- the Church of St. Margherita in Casanova. Its architecture dates back to the 13th century as demonstrated by discoveries found when it was being restored. Inside the church there is a 14th century epigraph and a 16th century silver censer that were saved during the 1746 raids.
- Palazzo Spinola of the 17th century at Torrazza
- The Church of St. Bernard which is surrounded by a town that has the same name. From this town you can admire the entire valley.
- The Parish Church of St. Olcese that was built in the second half of the 17th century on an ancient construction.
