The traveler that comes from Genoa will encounter Sori when the Via Aurelia passes the inlet where the Sori torrent flows into an other viaduct.
You can enjoy slopes covered with olive groves and flowers and you can also admire the shape of the Ruta hill.
The town is located further down and it is surrounded by pine forests in one of the most unique inlets of the Paradise Gulf.
The town is precious and picturesque and it has a small beach of sand and pebbles. In the past these features had attracted the attention of pirates and Sori was devastated by a king of Algiers without counting the damage due to bombings of WWII.
Its surroundings is decorated with villas and since the Renaissance they were frequented by Genoese nobles, in which they had gardens with many flowers that gave color to the olive groves.
Of artistic interest is the Parish of Santa Margherita built between 1711 and 1714 by Giovanni Antonio Ricca il Vecchio.
It has a beautiful façade and a picturesque bell tower with an elliptical base according to a widespread 18th century tradition in the Genoese area.
Inside you can admire paintings by Ligurian artists. Near the mouth of the torrent there is the oratory of Santa Maria delle Grazie with a late Renaissance façade that was restored at the end of the 19th century.
However you can also visit other nearby attractions such as: S. Apollinare a 14th century church on Poggio Montone, Bargagli through the valley of the Sori Torrent that faces the Fontanabiona Valley and Mount Becco (m. 894).
Pieve is a very well-known resort for those who appreciate the typical seaside Ligurian town.
Its hinterland is also rich in restaurants that will take you through a culinary journey. |
