The place-name Uscio, although its origins are debatable it means “door.” Some history lovers believe that the name Uscio comes from a Latin definition and others say that it comes from a Ligurian dialect. This is where the words “Aquxium” and “Uscium” come from.
Uscio is a town that has Lombard origins (but the finding of a destroyed castle makes us believe that there was once a pre-Roman settlement) and the residential area is distributed along the main road.
Historically speaking, the position of the slope of the Caprile hills united the businesses between Recco and Fontanabuona.

From the first years of the 19th century, the typical industry of clock towers was introduced to the area and its technique was imported from two German families.
At Uscio the precious textiles of “Bisso” are remembered, a very fine linen cloth of which the artisans were named after.
