Logo Valbrevenna Exiting at Busalla (Freeway A 7 Genova-Milano) continue towards Casella and you will see the fork for Valbrevenna in Avosso.

The Brevenna torrent meets with Scrivia from where it originates near Mount Antola. The torrent flows through Penetemina Valley and here you will see the great basin of Valbrevenna.

There are many communities that make up this area that are tied historically and bound by a profound rural culture. Throughout the centuries the valley wasn’t well known except for its position that made it easy to reach the Po Valley.

The small towns that made up the valley were estates of the Spinola and Fieschi families and here they built strategic castles. The agricultural and rural community developed during the feudal ages and today you can see entire hill sides that have been patiently terraced.

There were also many mills that produced chestnut, broad bean, and pea flour. However some of these mills were of no use, but they made the country landscape an enchanting place of seduction.

This rural scenery hasn’t been touched by man and it offers breathtaking sights that seem as though time has stopped. Of great interest is Senarega, which is historically speaking the main town of the valley. It is located at the foot of a massive stronghold that has maintained its Medieval aspect. It is hidden between the mountains with many small homes that are connected to one another. Near the old bridge is the old Church and a little further up is the Baroque Church dell’Assunta that dominates the area.

After the old mill, continuing along a narrow road you will arrive at the Sanctuary N.S. dell’Acqua that dates back to 1534.

Very prestigious is the restored Chapel of Mareta. There is also a rich artistic patrimony of small churches and the Museo della Civiltà Contadina (Farm Life Museum) in Senarega is interesting to visit.

There are also fascinating small scattered towns that are surrounded by a natural panorama. In fact it allows you to appreciate the typical local products of the real Genoese country.
