Logo How to get there: exit at Arma di Taggia or San Remo (Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia) from the Via Aurelia you will reach Bussana.

The flourishing Armédena Roman Colony developed a solid local economy thanks to the first “ceramic industries.”

Due to the continuous Saracen raids, the inhabitants moved further up the hills.

They settled in Bussana Alta because it gave them a larger control of the territory that went to the sea.

Those that survived the Saracen raids also experienced the 1887 earthquake that made the inhabitants return to their original settlement of Capo Marina.

This is how Bussana was created, after passing Capo Verde, after the Bridge on the Armea Torrent.

Life was brought back to the town thanks to Maurizio Dufor in the building of the Sacred Heart Sanctuary that began in 1889 and ended in 1901.

The classical façade has a mosaic of “Cristo Re” that enlivens the construction.

Inside you can admire a series of frescos as well as a 1600 wooden Crucifix and a statue of the Patron Saint Egidio.

There is also a canvas by Mattia Preti that portrays the birth of St. John the Baptist.

However, the real monumental jewel of the area is Bussana Vecchia.

It was restored in the first years of the 60’s and today the town has become a favorite destination for art and cultural lovers worldwide.

Around the bell tower of the Parish Church of Sacro Cuore that remained standing after the earthquake, you can admire shops, art galleries, and narrow alleys.
