It was a possession of the Clavasana feud during the 11th century and in 1172 it went under the protection of Diano.

An important document of the civil and military architecture of the Ligurian Middle Ages is represented by the Castle of Clavasana. It was built in the 12th century and it is located in the upper part of the town.
A great example of Baroque art is the Parish Church of St. Giovanni Battista located on a hill towards the sea.
Other buildings to visit of the Romanic-ogival culture is the 13th century Oratory of St. Caterina, the 17th century Palazzo Morchio, and Palazzo Viale.
On top of the ruins of the medieval Church of St. Giorgio the Baroque Church of St. Nicola was built.
