How to get there: Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia exit at Diano Marina.
In the flat land between Capo Cervo e Capo Berta there was an ancient Roman Lucus Bormani that was dedicated to Diana.
The residential areas developed in this area but in the Middle Ages the population moved to the hills and created the different towns that still exist today.
In the following centuries thanks to a powerful fleet Diano Marina became very important, however, in 1887 a great earthquake almost completely destroyed the area.
But, its reconstruction favored its economic development.
Diano Marina and San Bartolomeo al Mare are important from a historical point of view and both have undergone a great urban development thanks to the increase in tourists.
At Diano one must visit the 1862 Parish Church of St. Antonio Abate that has various canvases by the Ligurian school as well as a prestigious marble alter.
Leaving the church you will see Palazzo del Parco, home of the Civic Museum.
The old fortified center of Diano Castello is located on top of a hill and it dominates the entire coast.
Today you can admire the ruins of the castle and its walls. San Bartolomeo al Mare is divided into two distinct areas: the Borgo della Rovere located at the foot of the Sanctuary Madonna della Rovere, which has become a famous destination for pilgrims.
The second area developed around the 13th century Parish Church of San Bartolomeo and it has a 1562 polyptych attributed to “Pancalino.”
From San Bartolomeo you can reach the Valle del Cervo and here there are many possibilities of excursions among green trees and olive groves.
Thanks to Diano Marina’s administration and different companies it has become a place of great popularity.
Even Italians have discovered that behind its sandy shores there is a world full of life that captures the heart of young and old people during any time of the year.
