Logo Dolceacqua How to get there: Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia exit at Bordighera and after passing Camporosso Mare continue along the State Route of Val Nervia.

Dolceaqua is the main town of the Val Nervia and it is scattered along the two sides of the river, which is connected by a 33 meter medieval bridge.

It was a feud of the Counts of Ventimiglia and then it passed down to Oberto Doria who won the Meloria battle against the Pisan’s and he then began to build a castle.

The battles between the Guelph’s and Ghibelline’s and the rivalry between Doria and Grimaldi led to the protection of the Savoy’s and the transformation of a marquisate up until the annexation to the Sardinia Kingdom.

Today, Dolceacqua is a famous tourist attraction that has a beautiful and unique environment.

The typical Ligurian terracing that are cultivated with vineyards make an excellent production of red wine.

The Doria Castle is a symbol of the town and it was widened around the original tower in 1200.

Located on a rocky spur, throughout the centuries it underwent radical transformations but it resisted the powerful political and military encounters.

The mystery and the legend that haunts the town says that you can see the beautiful and virtuous spirit of Filomena wander around the streets of the town.

The 9th century Church of St. Giorgio is the oldest monument and in the crypt there is the Doria tomb.

The Parish Church of St. Antonio and the Oratory of St. Sebastiano contain interesting statues and canvases.

The old town has been beautifully restored and it has rich alleys that lead to the castle through an enchanting path.
