Logo Exit at Imperia Ovest (Highway A10 Genoa Ventimiglia) . From Porto Maurizio at the fork in the road for Valle di Caramagna, take the road for Valle del Torrente Prino. Also from Porto Maurizio take the road that crosses Piani and goes to Torrazza.

Dolcedo is very enchanting at night among the flow of fresh water of the Prino torrent and the meows of cats. It is even more fascinating if you admire the view of the Valley that has numerous nuclei as well as 5 bridges. Dolcedo has medieval origins and thanks to the Benedictine Brothers in 1119 they built the Church of St. Martino.

However, it was the Knights of Malta that made the area livable because they developed the area on the right hand side of the Prino Torrent and they also built a bridge called Ponte Grande. It was a territory of Clavasana and it joined Torrazza in order to build the local government with Porto Maurizio.

The territory was then given to Genoa because of feudal rights and in 1613 Dolcedo gained its own autonomy. Near the ancient Loggia del Comune or portico “Sotto Monte” you can find the ancient measures used for olive oil, wine, and, dry goods that were produced thanks to the many mills located in the valley.

The Church of St. Tommaso Apostolo is of the first half of the 17th century. It was built on top of the ruins of a previous late medieval church that still has a 1450 black stone portal and a prestigious blank and white churchyard. Inside, you can admire a 15th century wooden Crucifix and a beautiful 17th century canvas by Gregorio De Ferrari and Luca Cambiaso.
There are also two small Baroque bell towers adjacent to the Oratory of St. Prospero.

The numerous communities that have stone mule roads and mills capture the emotions of many tourists that are fascinated by the harmony of this area. It is a simple yet charming area that is very typical and it is located only a few minutes away from the Ligurian coast.
