How to get there: Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia, exit at Arma di Taggia and go along the State Route 548 towards Triora.
It is a small town of the Argentina Valley located in the hinterland of Arma di Taggia. Its unique place-name derives from the existence of 23 water mills scattered along the Argentina and Capriolo Torrents. Today, two water mills are still in perfect conditions.
Molini di Triora is an ancient and charming town full of legends and history. In these places, during the years of the Inquisition battles were fought against witchcraft.
The first documents that prove that witchcraft existed dates back to 1331 when the area was dominated by the lord of Ventimiglia, Carlo Grimaldo.
Throughout the centuries it was object of many disputes between Felice I of Savoy and the Republic of Genoa and in 1797 it was subdued by the Genovese for a long time.
The independence and administrative autonomy was gained in the first years of the 20th century when it was able to break away from Triora. It then developed a social identity as well as a prosperous economy.
Among its monuments of great interest is the Baroque Parish Church of St. Lorenzo that dates back to the 15th century. In side you can admire a precious triptych by Emanuele Macario from Pigna, with St. Maria Maddalena among St. Marta and St. Catherine.
Moving away from the center you will find the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora della Montà that dates back to the 15th century. Inside you can admire interesting frescos by Antonio Monregalese and a wooden icon by Giuseppe Borgogno.
In the nearby communities you can visit the Sanctuary of St. Giovanni dei Prati located on the slope of Mount Ceppo.
In the community of Corte there is the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora della Consolazione and its main alter is a rare example of Baroque sculpture. The Sanctuary was built in order to remind us of the miracle received by a mute young shepherdess that while in the fields she was caught by surprise by a violent storm. The young girl was very frightened so she began to pray. At once the storm ceased and when a rainbow appeared she saw a woman that led her to the path for Corte and the girl was then able to speak.
