How to get there: exit at Albenga Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia and continue along the Sate route towards Pieve di Teco between Ortovero and Vassalico and you will find Ranzo.
The unique town is located in the Arroscia Valley and it developed in the valley floor of the torrent that separates the territory.
On one side, Ranzo has beautiful chestnut trees and a rich vegetation while on the other side it is perfectly cultivated with olive trees and vineyards.
Ranzo has very ancient origins and its place-name is largely discussed.
According to some, Ranzo has Latin origins “Rantium ad Plebem” while others believe that its place name derives from the word “pancio” which in dialect means “defense.”
From high above there are a few ruins of the Clavesana Castle that highlights there power. However, form here you can enjoy a breathtaking view of scattered towns that form the area of Ranzo.
The town is located along the sides of the road and it has a linear structure.
Among its architectural elements of great prestige there is the Church of St. Pantaleo.
Its beauty is expressed in its pre-Romanic apse that is near another 15th century apse.
The portico is beautifully adorned with frescos and its portals are magnificently sculptured by the Cénova masters during 1493.
Ranzo also has an Oratory della Madonna della Neve that has a prestigious1544 polyptych by Giorgio Guidi.
Also very interesting to visit is the community of Bacélega that historically reminds us of the territorial boundary of Albenga.
The nearby center of Pogli has a rectangular structure which was typical of the military architecture of Albenga.
It almost seems to protect the interesting Parish Church of St. Stefano.
