 S. Lorenzo al Mare 1 How to get there: You will come across San Lorenzo by the Aurelia after exiting at Imperia Ovest (Highway A10).

Laigueglia and Porto Maurizio remained separated for many centuries due to the natural boundary of the San Lorenzo River, later the territory was given to Pietrabruna.

Then the lords of Porto Maurizio decided to build a stronghold near the torrent and they used the money of three pirates that had stolen a large amount of goods from the Saracens.

Only later the rural agglomerate North of the Aurelia developed. However, the two towns were always in battle until 1794 because then they had to unite in order to protect themselves from Saracen raids.

This is how the bridge and the station were built that favored trading between the sea and the hinterland.

The historical center becomes very lively thanks to the weekly market that colors the entire town.

The Parish Church of St. Maria Maddalena is of great architectonic prestige.

It was rebuilt in 1776 in a Baroque style and it still has the structural traces of the late Middle Ages. The Oratory della Misericordia is waiting to be restored.

Flowers, fruits, vegetables, and a delicious Vermentino attract tourists as well as its well-equipped beaches and sporting facilities.

There are also romantic places along the seaside promenade that extends from the shore to the beautiful cliffs that allow you to admire the sea and inhale the smell of fresh pine trees.
