How to get there: exit at La Spezia-Santo Stefano Magra (Highway A12 Genoa-Rosignano).
From the modern town of Ponte di Arcola you will travel along a panoramic road and from here you will reach the beautiful historical town.
A compact urban tissue reaches the top of the hill and along the curves of the hill.
This cute town is a well known community of Obertenga and since Medieval times it has always been an important commercial, sea, and land center.
Because of its strategical position it was the object of many disputes for its possession. The territory was governed by a noble syndicate near the lords of Vezzano and the Bishops of Luni.
The Malaspina family tried to conquer Arcola, but in 1278 the Genovese took over.
You can still see the pentagonal tower that was destroyed by the Genovese but today it has been integrated into the Municipality in a Medieval form.
Piazza Muccini is home of the Parish Church and here the rural scenery of the homes blends well with the banisters.
The Parish Church of St. Nicolò was built on top of an ancient castrensian construction and the Chapel of St. Bernardino contains an interesting marble Polittico.

From Arcola there are pleasant roads that go to the Sanctuary della Madonna degli Angeli and in the community of Baccano you can admire a beautiful 18th century Villa Picedi that has a magnificent park.
The Church of St. Stefano and St. Margherita was built on the ruins of the Parish Church of Arcola and here capitals and frescos makes its history and culture more attractive to its visitors.
