How to get there: Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia exit at Albenga or Andora and continue along the Via Aurelia.
It is considered to be the treasure of the Riviera di Ponente. It is located on an elegant bay and Alassio developed in the year 1000 as part of a Benedictine feud of the Gallinara Island. Later it became Villa of the local government of Albenga but in 1540 the Republic of Genoa sanctioned its autonomy.
Today, Alassio has long and wide beaches decorated with old homes and charming alleys where you can admire the newer part that has elegant hotels, villas, parks and gardens.
Alassio has a prestigious position therefore it guarantees a pleasing climate for an enjoyable stay at any time of the year. Of great historical interest is the 11th century Parish Church of St. Ambrogio that was transformed and widened in 1507.
It has a Renaissance façade, a Romanic-Gothic bell tower, and a Baroque interior and it is a fantastic blend of artistic creativity.
Of great prestige is the 18th century Palazzo of Ferrero De Gubernatis Ventimiglia and the Palazzo Sofferi that has a precious Crucifix.
Very pleasing is the walk to the small 11th century Church of St. Croce that can easily be reached by foot through a path adorned with olive groves and villas. A little further ahead you can visit the Madonna della Guardia that offers a picturesque view.
Famous worldwide is the picturesque wall that has artistic signatures as well as precious ceramics that remind us of the great artists that stayed at Alassio.
