How to get there: Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia exit at Andora.
The modern part of the town developed irregularly at the mouth of the Mérula Torrent and it has always had a different urban structure compared to the other nearby Ligurian towns.
In fact, its homes are scattered everywhere making it difficult to recognize the older areas.
Andora was nominated by the Marquis Del Vasto and Monferrato in order to be annexed to the marquisate of Clavesana.
In the 15th century it was subdued to the Republic of Genoa that followed its main stages throughout the centuries.
Part of the town is covered with structures of the last century but, in the older part you can admire the 16th century Embattled Tower built for defensive reasons.
Going along a path full of peach orchards and olive groves you can reach the mighty ruins of the Andora Castle (14th-16th century).
Its walls, palazzo, and towers formed by the bell tower of the 13th century Church of St. Giacomo and St. Filippo make this one of the most important Medieval monuments of the Riviera di Ponente.
In the community of San Giovanni you will find the picturesque Roman Bridge.
From the Roman street that leads from the bridge to the Castle you will encounter a beautiful 14th century fountain.
Continuing along the road for Passo del Ginestro you will discover interesting features that have ancient origins.
Andora also offers trips to Capo Mele or Laigueglia where you can admire an enchanting view.
