How to get there: Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia exit at Pietra Ligure or Finale Ligure and continue along the Via Aurelia.
The old town is divided into two residential areas and its origins date back before the year 1000. The Saracen culture is noticeable in both centers and in particular at Verezzi because of the structure of its constructions.
The two areas were almost always in the hands of the Bishops of Albenga except for sporadic dominations by the Marquis Del Carretto of Finale Ligure.
In 1385 Borgio and Verezzi were given to the Republic of Genoa that followed its historical vicissitudes.
Today, Borgio is located near a wide beach and it is a well-known seaside resort because of its fantastic climate that attracts tourists all year round. Although Borgio has developed greatly throughout the years its picturesque historical center has been untouched.
However, Verezzi is surrounded by almonds and it is located above Borgio and it still maintains its fantastic historical center.
At Borgio you can visit the Parish Church of St. Pietro that was built between 1789 and 1806 on top of the ruins of a previous temple. Of great importance is the 14th century Church of St. Stefano that has a 14th century bell tower and a nearby embattled tower.
At Verezzi you can admire the Saracen homes and the breathtaking view of the entire coast. During the summer you can enjoy a great theatrical manifestation.
You can also see the Tower of Bastia built by Del Carretto that is partly knocked down. Very pleasing are the trips to the Grotta degli Armorari, the Caverne of Finale, and the Grotte of Toirano.
