Celle is a wonderful example of where old and modern blend well together. The beaches of Celle Ligure are full of Italians and foreigners and its Center contrasts the old part of town, which highlights the history of this fantastic seaside resort.
The first historical accounts of Celle were written by the Emperor Enrico II in 1014. A member of the “Marca Aleramica” united with Varazze and Albisola, Celle Ligure went through various dominations from the Marquis of Ponzone to Malocelli and Doria and in 1343 it became part of the Republic of Genoa.
Celle Ligure went under various political stages until 1798. Located among olive groves and grapevines it still maintains many of its ancient features yet it knew how to adapt to the needs of a demanding new generation.
Among monuments and religious buildings of great interest and historical value other than the Torri di Cornaro is the Parish Church of St. Michele Arcangelo.
It was built between 1630-1640 on the ruins of a 1200 church and it has many art pieces that have been completed during different artistic periods.
Something else that one must see are the different sporting events where one can participate especially during the summer.
For those who love the outdoors one must take a trip to the panoramic Pinete dei Bottini and Natta.
The seaside promenade has many commercial tourist attractions and the path leads to the rocks that has become a favorite of lovers.
