How to get there: Exit at Albenga (Highway A10 Ge-Ventimiglia) and follow the street that runs along the Neva Torrent.
In the great plain of Albenga, on the sides of the Neva Torrent, and at the meeting point of the Neva with the Pennavaira Torrent you can admire Cisano. It has wonderful olive groves and peach orchards.
It is an ancient Santa Maria and Martino feud of Gallinara and it has Byzantine origins. However, its quadrangular structure highlights is defensive pattern that was carried out by the city of Albenga in order to protect themselves from raids that came from the hinterland.
Its new location dates back to 1228 and for a long time Cisano was guarded by an armed garrison of soldiers that was to protect the Republic of Genoa.
Today, it is a quiet town that has homes scattered along the architectonic axis of the old urban structure. Here the walls are flat and there are fantastic gardens and the town is closed by thick and rustic walls that make up the unique “carugi” (alleys). Of the ancient walls you can admire small fragments of the angular towers and from one of them the bell tower of the Church of St. Maria Maddalena was built.
The small church of St. Calogero has Romanic origins and it still has traces of its original structure that dates back to the year 1000. The Roman civilization can be admired on the 2nd century B.C. monumental gravestone and later it was renamed the Tower of Saracens.
From the Medieval bridge that crosses Neva you can enjoy a wonderful view as well as relax to the sound of running crystal clear waters. Continuing along the road that takes you to the first Piedmont valleys you will find the Church of St. Giovanni Battista that has an adjacent cottage and in the last century there were many disputes about its possession.
Very beautiful is the community of Conscente where you can admire the fascinating Castle of the Marquis Rolandi Ricci Del Carretto. The olive trees of the garden beautifully adorn the extraordinary architectonic structure that is always blessed with delicate colors.
