Finalborgo is located in the hinterland and it is one of the communities together with Finalmarina and Finalpia that make up Final Ligure, which is the most interesting historically speaking.
It was founded in 1188 by Enrico Del Carretto, it was destroyed by the Genovese in 1449, and later it was rebuilt. In the 18th century it was the capital of the Marquisate of Finale. Today, Finalborgo maintains a Medieval noble aspect thanks to its 15th century walls that surround the town.
The street are full of important piazzas, shops, buildings, and it various stratifications highlight it different stages from the Middle Ages to the Baroque period.
Very mighty is the Collegiate of St. Biagio that has an elegant octagonal 13th century bell tower that was one connected to the superb Gavone Castle with its Torre del Diamante that dominates the town.
There are two original entrances to Finalborgo; the unique Porta Testa that has an ogival arch and the picturesque Porta Reale that was rebuilt in the 17th century. The Dominican Convent was built in 1359 and it has an important bell tower.
The are many buildings of great historical interest such as Palazzo del Comune, Palazzo Brunengo, and Palazzo Arnaldi. Going up a slightly steep road you will reach the immense Fort of St. Giovanni and its castle walls go all the way down the hill until they reach the town.
There are also adventurous excursions to the Caverne di Arene Candide at the Capo of the Caprazoppa which, is famous for its rocks. Its beaches are well-known and fantastic in the summer.
