Logo How to get there: exit at Pietra Ligure (Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia). After passing Tovo S. Giacomo, Bardino Vecchio, and Bardino Nuovo you will reach Magliolo.

The street that from Pietra Ligure runs along the East side of the Maremola Torrent crosses ancient paths of the “Via della Ferriera” to the rural town of Magliolo.

The small communities that are positioned like a fan highlight the agricultural aspect of the entire valley, however, the area is dedicating itself to tourist activities.

It was a possession of the Marquis Del Carretto and Magliolo didn’t have a great historical role up until the arrival of the Napoleonic troops and their great leader stayed the night here.

You can see the three forts of French military architecture known as “Tortagna,” “Centrale,” and “Merizzo.”

The Parish Church of St. Antonio has a 1400 bell tower. Inside the Sanctuary of S.S. Cosma and Damiano you can admire interesting frescos.

In the community of Isello you can see the ruins of the 1750 Ferriera. A thick vegetation is scattered along the rocks and in the Maremola and Varatella Valleys.

At the foot of the Bric Tampa there is the Grotta of the Scogli Neri. From Ponte di Merlo that are numerous paths that go to the Col of Melogno that offers a breathtaking view.

The local gastronomy is very well known and it offers delicious dishes of snails as well as fine glasses of Lumassina or Barbarossa wines.
