How to get there: Highway A6 Savona-Torino, exit at Millesimo.
It is a small historical center of Roman origins located on the right hand side of the Bormida. During the 13th century with the Marquis Enrico del Carretto, Millesimo was largely rebuilt after it was destroyed by Saracen raids.
In 1263 the city was governed by the Republic of Asti and from 1639 to 1659 by the Spanish and then it became a possession of the Savoy in 1736.
Today, Millesimo offers all the features of an old medieval town that can count on a good number of tourists that for some time come here in order to experience a relaxing vacation.
The old Castle Del Carretto was built in 1206 by the Marquis Enrico. Very interesting is a visit to the 16th century Piazza Italia where you can admire the old Tower built on top of 14th century foundations. It was once the home of Del Carretto and today it is home of the Palazzo Comunale.
The ancient Parish Church of St. Maria extra muros is of the Romanic epoch. Inside there are prestigious frescos that were found during the restoration of the building in 1960.
Very unique is the bridge “La Gaietta” that is a rare and picturesque example of medieval Ligurian architecture.
For excursion lovers, one must visit the Sanctuary della Madonna del Deserto and the ruins of the Del Carretto Castle at Murialdo and from here you can enjoy a breathtaking view.
The nearby communities of Plodio and Cosseria are worth mentioning because of there beauty and historical importance referred to the Napoleonic battles. Very fascinating is the tourist area of Osiglia Lake, which is a great ad well-equipped place for gatherings in the Val Bormida.
