How to get there: Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia exit at Spotorno and continue along the Via Aurelia towards Finale Ligure.
In the old maritime town located in the center of a small bay you can admire intact Medieval walls and towers that highlights its history.
Noli has very ancient origins, in fact, some say that it dates back seven centuries before Rome even though no document can prove this.
However, in the 10th century the town founded the Marca Aleramica Committee with the county seat of Savona.
In 1098 the maritime government of Noli participated at the Crusades and its coat of arms reminds us of this epoch.
In 1202 Noli stipulated a treaty with Genoa, which made the town independent and later it obtained its autonomy from Savona.
It independence among other historical events lasted until 1797.
Today, Noli still maintains its fascination of a town rich in history and not even the new constructions modified its typical urban structure that contains picturesque alleys full of palazzos, arches and ancient towers.
The first monument that captures the attention of tourists is without a doubt the 1004Orsino Castle that has a round tower and it was built on the ruins of another ancient construction.
The other monument that highlights Noli is the Romanic-Byzantine Church of St. Paragorio that was rebuilt in 760 on the ruins of an underground church. Between 1239-1527 it was the Cathedral of Noli.
It is considered to be one of the greatest creations of Romanic art in Liguria.
