How to get there: exit at Albisola Superiore (Highway A10 Ge-Ventimiglia) and take the road that goes towards the mountains until you reach Stella.
The five administrative communities that extend throughout the territory are geographically positioned in the shape of a star. It has a population of about three thousand and each community has its own Parish Church. Because of its shape this is how Stella got its place-name.
Its history dates back to feudalism when a branch of the Aleramici Family became the owner of the territory in the 12th century. However, its more recent history reveals that the territory was a possession of the Genovese Grimaldi Family.
It is a land that was conquered by Napoleon and Stella followed the events of the Savoy Family after the Restoration. The ruins of the castle, its pentagonal walls, its towers, and its underground passage dominate San Giovanni. The old Parish Church is waiting to be restored while the new one of the late 19th century has statues as well as wooden ones by Antonio Brilla.
San Martino has a 16th century Parish Church with three Renaissance naves. From here you can go to Gameragna where a Baroque church and oratory remember St. Sebastiano. Inside, there is a 1583 marble bushel of the Republic of Genoa that reminds us of the local weights and measures used, which are different from the Metric System.
After passing the fork in road for Salto you will come across Santa Giustina. Its Parish Church has a magnificent painting by Luca Cambiaso. Nostra Signora del Salto is of Neoclassical style and it reminds us of a miracle of a mysterious knight that had a sacred vision during a deadly fall and survived.
San Bernardo is a unique town in the heart of a green landscape and it has the most sophisticated and advanced technologies for the improvement of the local agriculture. The wonderful walks in the woods of Stella favors tourist who are in search of a healthy and genuine tradition both environmentally and gastronomically.
