 Logo How to get there: Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia exit at Albenga and in a few minutes you will reach the historical center of Villanova.


The Medieval town was founded in 1225 between the Arroscia and Lerrone Torrents. It was fortification of the Local Government of Albenga against the feuds of Laigueglia and Clavesana.
This popular summer resort is famous for its peach orchards and it still has the old castle walls with ten towers and two doors.


This unique Medieval urban structure was greatly hit by the war, but it was restored without harming is historical monumental value.


Worth mentioning is the 12th century Romanic Church of St. Stefano that has an interesting 13th century bell tower.
Not far, along the road towards Garlenda you will find the Church of St. Maria della Rotonda which is one of the few examples of a Renaissance building with a central base.


At the center of the town there is an ancient and picturesque Medieval Well that is unique because of its chains and copper jugs. Until 1930 this well supply Villanova people by its water, than it became the Villanova symbol.


There are also many towers and ruins of the ancient walls that highlights the town’s history.


There are also enjoyable excursions that will take you to the green valleys of Lerrone and Arroscia.


Very important are the local airport, the Garlenda Golf Club, and the famous horse track.
